Thoroughbreds. We all know them as race horses but where do they originate and why are they special?

Thoroughbreds

Thoroughbreds are typically known as racehorses. This is what they were bred for in the first place but these days they are also seen in eventing, dressage, show jumping and more.

The origins of this breed date back to the 17th and 18th century. They were created using Turkoman, Barb, and Arabian stallions crossed with English mares.

Thoroughbreds are great because they are athletic, intelligent, bold, sensitive, high-spirited, have superb agility, and stamina. They are classed as “hot- blood horses. Due to this, they are ridden by all different people with different abilities.

They stand around 16hh on average and usually are bay, chestnut, brown, black, or grey. The life expectancy of a thoroughbred is approximately 25 – 28 years. The thoroughbred horse is one of the most popular in the UK.

Apparently, in the Northern Hemisphere, any thoroughbred will share the same birthday as all others no matter when they were born.
